Why Volunteer?

Volunteers bring enthusiasm, experience and skills, support, time and energy and enable us to maintain a higher adult to child ratio. Volunteers are a valuable asset to Sticks and Stones and, in return, we will provide on-going support and training for our volunteers.

  • Regular volunteers need to be aware and familiar with any individualised risk assessments and support plans.
  • All volunteers will receive and electronic version of the handbook and will be asked to sign to confirm they have read and understood this before commencing sessions
  • Volunteers who plan to work with Sicks and Stones regularly will be invited to an induction and asked to undergo a PVG check. We would ask, where possible, that volunteers support the forest school sessions by attending regular day/s per week.
  • All volunteers are to follow health and safety guidelines, taking reasonable care of their own and other’s health and safety at all times.
  • Regular volunteers will start as fire guardian to become comfortable with the group, and undertake their induction before supporting children 1:1. Monthly supervision and support will be carried out, as well as regular team reflection.
  • Regular volunteers will have an employee file to record the minimum information necessary e.g. contact details, confidentiality agreement, PVG certificate and induction form. These will be retained for the required 6 years.
  • Casual helpers’ details will be stored securely with the minimum amount of information required.

We are always looking to welcome new people into our community. If you would like to get involved as a volunteer during sessions; helping to maintain or develop our forest school site; or on our board of trustees, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch by email with your details and we look forward to chatting soon!
