Our site is situated in the Pitgarvie Woods near Luthermuir.

The woodland is mainly Scots Pine and self-seeded Birch Trees.

This area has been woodland since at least the 1700s and probably even longer as earlier maps don’t show woodland.

This means it is classed as Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site. We believe the current Scots Pine were planted in the 1950s. These trees can grow up to 35 metres and live for up to 700 years! They are the only Pine tree native to Scotland and help to provide a habitat to iconic species such as Red squirrels and pine martens.
